Abstract

This experiment was carried out at the Departamento de Agricultura of the Escola Superior de Agricultura de Lavras, MG, Brazil, from August 1980 to January 1981, in a distrophic Dark-Red Latosol. Initial stand, plant height, bulbar ratio and productivity characteristics were determined during the plant growing. The experimental design used was in split plots in complete randomized blocks with four replications. The plots were constituted by eight sampling periods each ten days, and the splits plots three periods of vernalization 10, 20 and 30 days) at 4°C and one check test. Initial stand plant Height and bulb ratio were highest in the treatments in which the bulbs were submitted to a treatment in the freezer, and highest plant height and bulb diameter were obtained between 80 and 100 days after planting. A bulbar productivity about 7 t/ha and a precocity of 30 days in the 20 and 30 days of cold treatment were observed.
