The objective of this study was to evaluate comparatively the performance of Polwarth and crossbred (Texel x Polwarth) Iambs in native pasture in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data of 59 Iambs were used, with the following distribution: 21 male and 19 female of the Polwarth breed, 7 mate and 12 female crossbred Texel x Polwarth, slaughtered with an average age of 116 days. The following variables were studied: birth weight, live weight at slaughter and average daily gain. The analysis of variance showed that purebred and crossbred lambs did not differ significantly in all parameters studied, seeming that adverse environmental conditions, specially low nutritional levels, were limiting factors for the expected heterosis manifestation.
