During a two-year period (1976/1977) a study was made of the production of a flock of Bhuj goats. The flock was composed of 28 breeders and one male and was grazed on native pasture. The following data were recorded: 75.0% and 82.0% of females produced kids in the first and second year, respectively; the kidding rates were 143.0% and 125% in the first and second year, respectively. Eighteen per cent of females aborted only in the first year, and the sex ratio was 51.0% for male and 49.0% for female. The service period was verified as 99.5 ± 48.6 days and the kidding interval 246.2 ± ± 53.6 days with a mean gestation period of 146.8 ± 3.3 days. The mortality rate was 16.9% in kids and 8.9% in adults. The animal liveweigth (male and female) was 3.0; 16.5 and 23.8 kg at birth and six and at twelve months of age respectively.Downloads
