Abstract

Cylindrocladim clavatum was determined to be the causal agent of brown eye, a disease recently reported on potato tubers grown in Minas Gerais, Goiás and Distrito Federal, Brazil. Lenticels are the main site of entry of the pathogen in the tubers, where it causes rounded, superficial, dark brown lesions with well defined margins. Because of similarity in symptoms, brown eye has commonly boon misidentified as dry rot caused by Fusarium spp.
