Abstract

In this work the effects of calcium carbide (120 g - 150 l water), applied into the heart of pineapple plants (Ananas comosus (L) Merr. cv. Pérola) were studied. There were significant differences (1%) among the treatments on the weights of the fruits, length and weight of the crowns, total fruit acidity, according to the time of calcium carbide application. The weight of the fruit harvested and the number of the leaves of the plants were found to be correlated positively; the same for the weight of the fruit and plant height.
