Abstract

Landrace reproductive sows naturally infected with Oesophagostomum spp were utilized to obtain third stage larvae for the experimental infection of two weaned piglets, in order to identify species of this genus of helminthis. After recuperation of adult nematodes by necropsy, a taxonomic study was conducted. Oesophagostomum dentatum (Rudolphi 1803) and Oesophagostomum quadrispinulatum (Marcone 1901) were identified, with predominance of the first species which represented 79,2% of the total. These results are the first record of occurrence of those two helminth species in the State of Santa Catarina.
