Abstract

A chemical evaluation was carriet out on a mineral mixture, using four mixing times and two sampling places in the "Y"-type mixer. The samples were analyzed as to magnesium (Mg), manganesse Mn), cooper (Cu), iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) proportions. There was a statistical difference (P <0,05) between the mixing times (5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes) in the Mg, Cu and Zn contents. Mixing time did not affect Mn (P > 0,05). In spite of the large variations in the means of the minerals, it was observed that times between 15 and 20 minutes did not differ statistically, suggesting that 15 minutes is the best mixing time under the conditions of the present study. However, a significant statistical difference was observed between of Mg and Cu means when analyzed at the beginning and at the end of the discharge, after only ten minutes of mixing. These results showed an antagonistic behavior of Mg and Cu, while larger quantities of Mg were found in the upper parts of the mixer.
