Abstract

The diagnosis of avian tuberculosis in 25 (69.4%) of 36 small farm flocks of domestic fowls, in the county of Águas Mornas, Santa Catarina, is described. The incidence of infection in the contaminated flocks, based on tuberculation of 933 adult poultry, including some water fowls, was 13.3%. Mycobacterium avium type 2 was identified. Considering that the avian tuberculosis is only sporadically registered in Brazil and that economic losses caused by the discase are low, the sanitary aspect must be given attention.
