Abstract

A serological survey was carried out to verify the presence of antileptospira agglutinins in 404 blood sera from several groups of equine, by the microscopic agglutination test with 16 live antigens. The results demonstrated positive reactions at a rate of 26.15% in 195 saddle horses, 26.92% in 26 thoroughbred used for breeding and 1.56% in 128 thoroughbred racers. The predominant serotypes were pomona and tarassovi in saddle horses and bataviae in the thoroughbreds. None of the sera from 36 jumper horses nor from 19 horses used for serum production showed positive reactions.
