Research methods and classification of the greenbug, Schizaphis graminum (Rondani) in Rio Grande do Sul, turned up three different species of aphids economically most important in wheat in the region: Toxoptera (Schisaphis) graminum (Rondani), Metopolophium (Acyrthosiphon) dirhodum (Walker) and Macrosiphum (Rhopalosiphum) avenae (F.). Observations showed evidence of three different periods of invasion of the three aphid species during the vegetative period of wheat in the Pelotas area.
