Abstract

The estimates of growth parameters of 18 tropical legumes were determined utilizing 7 cultivars of Phaseolus atropurpureus D.C., 8 cultivars of Glycine wightii (formely G. javanica L.), one cultivar of Stylosanthes gracilis H.B.K,, one of Pueraria jacanica Benth, and one of Centrosema pubescens Benth. The results showed differences among the legumes for the total plant dry weight leaf area, relative growth rate, and apparent assimilation rate for all three collected samples. The cultivars of Phaseolus atropurpureus and the cultivar "Deodoro" of Centrosema pubescens presented the best performance during the period of establishment.
