Abstract

Thirty soil samples, taken on the campus of the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, yielded thirty seven isolates of keratinophilic fungi belonging to the following genera Cunninghamella, Curvularia, Fusarium, Spicaria, Trichoderma and Microsporum. One of these could be identified to the species, Microsporum gypseum. These fungi were obtained by hair-baiting procedure. Only Fusarium strains failed to grow on this "in natura" horse hair.
