Abstract

In this paper results and observations on a field experiment which showed economical difficulties on the utilization of biological control on wheat pests attacking aerial and subterraneous parts of the plant, are presented. From the technical and economical points of view the application of chlorinated insecticides to protect aerial parts was justified. The profitability of insecticides incorporation to the soil was technically confirmed in relation to granulated systemic insecticides. The application of chlorinated insecticides for subterraneous parts of the wheat plant is not recommended either technically or economically. Studies on wheat pests biology under ecological conditions in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, are also presented.
