Abstract

Clinical and bacteriological examination of 119 cases of endometrites in cows from nine areas of the Rio de Janeiro milk shed revealed infection by: Corynebacterium pyogenes in 39 cows (32.7%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa in eight, Staphylococcus aureus in six and Escherichia coli, Streptococcus uberis and Trichomonas foetus, only once. Microorganisms considered "non specific" as etiological agents were isolated from 29 cows with purulent endometrites and from 29 cows with sub-clinical infections. No germs were isolated in 10 cases that were clinically diagnosed as sub-clinical endometrites.
