The author reports some problems in the use of fertilizers and suggests several measures toward an increased production of foods in Brazil, such as: 1. A substantial production of phosphated fertilizers to be available to farmers at reasonable prices, facilities being extended to its manufacture and transportation, if necessary. 2. The exchange values not used for the imports of phosphated fertilizers could be invested in the purchase of nitrogenous fertilizers. When domestic production of these items should be sufficient to meet internal demands, the spared exchange values would be useful for the imports of potassic fertilizers.
