In order to study asexual propagation methods for brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra Fr. Allem), several root cutting experiments using young and old plants with different. concentrations of IBA, with and without girdling, under two environmental conditions, were carried out at EMBRAPA/UEPAE of Manaus, Brazil. Only cuttings made from year-old seedlings and from newly developing shoots of stool plants rooted satisfactorily. Neither IBA nor presence of leaves had a significant effect on rooting of stem cuttings from year-old seedlings. Propagation under mist conditions was better than propagation under natural relative humidity. Genotypic differences among individual stool plants seem to be important for rooting of shoot cuttings.
