In this work conducted at the Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Mandioca e Fruticultura - Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (National Research Center for Cassava and Fruit Crops of EMBRAPA), Cruz das Almas, Bahia, Brazil -, a comparative analysis for growth features and fruit quality of the cultivars Pérola and Smooth Cayenne was carried out aiming to get basical informations for more adequate crop management. The vegetative and reproductive behaviour of two sizes of 'Pérola' slips and 'Smooth Cayenne' suckers were studied. Both the general growth and the fruit quality were similar for the two cultivars, with relatively small advantages for the bigger planting material.
