The objective of this work was to determine the traction coefficient and the tractive efficiency of an agricultural tractor on a Dark Red Latossol by means of field trials and compare them to those obtained with Wismer & Luth (1973) equation. The following data were determined: drawbar pull, drawbar and PTO power, fuel consumption, forward speed, wheel slip and engine RPM. The results showed that there was a correlation of 74% between the observed and calculated drawbar pull values indicating that the equation can be considered valid under the conditions of this work.
