Abstract

A study was conducted on the phytosociological structure of the natural vegetation of the area at the farm Marflora in Maranhão State, in Brazil. On three study sites of one hectare each, 1.413 trees with a DBH of over 5 cm were measured. A number of 41 species occurred. The phytosociological values were 2,9 for site A, 3,8 for site B and 3,3 for site C. On the basis of the phytosociological position and the importance value index the following species were considered the most important: Plathymenia reticulata Benth., Byrsonima crassifolia (L.) H.B.K., Ouratea spectabilis (Mart.) Engl. and Qualea parviflora Mart.
