Abstract

In vitro sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.) was evaluated as to its ability to regenerate into plantlets and micropropagation. Apical meristems were inoculated on MS medium supplemented altematively with ANA + BAP; ANA + KIN + GA3; and ANA + BAP + GA3. The cultivars RC 1.8, MFT (Mãe-de-Família També), TR 3, 473 and Arroba led plantlets with similar height but different regeneration ratio. The supplementation with 0.01 mg/l of ANA plus 1.0 mg/l of BAP was indicated for Arroba and MFT; however, for TR 3,473 and RC 1.8, the supplementation with 0.005 mg/l ANA + 0.5 mg/l BAP + 0.25 mg/l AG3 was recommended. Plantlets were propagated through nodal segments using MS medium with 1.0 mg/l of GA3. Differences between cultivars were not observed.
