Abstract

From 1984 to 1988, at the Cooperativa Agrária Mista Entre Rios Ltda., in Guarapuava, Paraná State, Brazil, the effect of crop rotation systems on wheat was assessed. Economic analysis for that period is presented in this paper. Four crop rotation systems for wheat were studied: 1) monoculture; 2) one winter without wheat; 3) two winters without wheat; 4) three winters without wheat. Both winter (oats, barley, common vetch, flax, wheat, and lupin) and summer (corn and soybean) crops were seeded under no-tillage. A randomized complete block design with four replications and plots with 60 m2 was used. Annual gross returns allow the conclusion that the economic analysis may contribute for understanding crop performance in different rotation systems. The results showed that, for the region studied, the system 2, 4 or 1 should be recomended for annual rotation. For winter cropping, the recomendation is the system 1 or 4.
