This study was carried out with the objective of obtaining information on the plot size for field experiments with dwarf cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale L.). Data were obtained from seed propagated plants as well as from clonal plants, during a five-year productive period. Optimum plot size was determined by using the intraclass coefficient of correlation (p). Based on both production variables, number and weight of mature nuts, the authors recommended plots with four to six plants in two test rows, either with one half guard row (b-1/2) or with a complete guard row (b-1). Linear plots with a half guard row or a complete guard row should have either three or four plants. Experiments with seed propagated plants demand larger plots and a higher number of replications. For field experiments, if small plots are to be used, the number of replications should be increased. However, even with more replications, trials using small plots allow a considerable reduction in the experimental area, without reducing experimental precision.Downloads
