Rice grain yield increase in Rio de Janeiro State from 1981/82 to 1991/92

Abstract

The research was carried out aiming to estimate the genetic progress accomplished by the paddy rice (Oryza sativa L.) breeding program in Rio de Janeiro State. Data (average grain yield) were obtained from cultivars and pure lines from advanced comparative trials at PESAGRO-RIO, from 1981/82 to 1991/92. It was observed a total genetic gain of 1,698 kg/ha, resulting in an annual average gain of 5.27%, showing efficiency of the program in that period.
