Abstract

This article points out some considerations about partnerships between public and private institutions, extending the discussion on the malting barley case, which represents a viable alternative for the Brazilian production system with the use of irrigation in the "Cerrado" area. It presents a historical evolution, starting with the Embrapa Trigo and describing its present situation, showing that this type of action can constitute an answer to face the financial and administrative difficulties, aiming the development of more participative methodologies, not only regarding research, but also technology transfer. This partnership creates a very important opportunity for the Brazilian scientific and technological research, once it potencializes the utilization of funds in research and development, contributing to increase the competitivity aspect of the Brazilian products.
