Abstract

The progresses of the modern biotechnology created new means by which the natural products can be transformed in commercial products. At the same time, society's concern is also enlarged to include: product safety, environmental protection, development and international trade. Brazil offers significant opportunities, start with agro biotechnology, for the biotechnology as a key industry. The future of the research and of the agricultural production of Brazil will depend on adaptation of these new paradigms, especially the appropriate consideration of subjects such as the biosafety and the public acceptance of the transgenic products.
