Brain aspergillosis in chicks

Abstract

Two lots of twelve to fifteen-day old chicks were examined in order to find out the causes of their diseases. The first lot showed leg paralysis and respiratory distress, and the second one showed symptoms of paddling movements of the legs, lateral decubitus, torticollis, and also respiratory troubles. Encephalic mycosis was evidenced by isolation of the aspergillus from the central nervous system of chicks of the first group and by histological incisions in the brain of the chicks of the second group. The aspergillus was isolated also from the lungs of the chicks of both groups, which exhibited milliary pneumonia.
