Abstract

A generic method of obtaining preliminary estimates (initial values) of the parameters of non-linear growth models generally used, such as: Brody, Bertalanffy's cubic root, Gompertz and von Bertalanffy, is presented. The application of the method to the adjustment of these models is illustrated with growth weight data of bovines of the Ibagé race and of buffaloes of the Murrah race.
