Abstract

Based on the data of electrophoretic analysis from two rubber tree (Hevea spp) natural population, the importance of the parameters such as genetic variability of populations, outcrossing rate and inbreeding coefficient for their implications crop improvement is discussed. The large amount of genetic variation within populations, and the pattern of plant distribution into the populations permit the proposition of new improvement strategies. The rubber tree plantation in the Amazon region would be well successful only if it represents the existing natural populations model, with reference to the quantity and the form of variability distribution in the populations.
