Pyrenochaeta terrestris on tomato in Pernambuco State, Brazil

Pyrenochaeta terrestris (Hansen) Gorenz, Walker & Larson, causing root rot, was isolated from tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) at Garanhuns, Pernambuco, Brazil. Visible symptoms were stunted growth of the plant and appearance of irregular necrotic lesions on the leaves, and wilting of the plants. Pathogenicity tests were positive 20 - 30 days after inoculations. This paper reports on the first registered occurrence of this disease in Brazil.
