Abstract

The experiments forming the basis of the present paper were conducted in the section of Agricultural Climatology of IPEACS (Agricultural Research Institute of the Central South) in the years 1952-1956. In two tables and four graphics the authors examined soil moisture conditions by the Thornthwaite method and studied the correlation with the growth of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). The results show the best yields were obtained when soil moisture remained at "field-capacity". An excess or deficiency of moisture proved to be disadvantageous for bean production, justifying the conclusion that growth depends upon the evapotranspiration intensity.
