Abstract

Lodging is an agronomic characteristic that can affect the yield and the quality of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grain. This work presents information on the reaction to lodging shown by cultivars from the State Wheat Cultivar Trial-RS over the period 1985 to 1990. Two or three trials were evaluated per year in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, according to the method established by Petrucci, which studies the percentage of the lodged are and the degree of stem inclination. Cultivars CNT 10, Herval, PAT 7392, RS 2-Santa Maria, Trigo BR 14, Trigo BR 15, Trigo BR 23, and Trigo BR 38 showed resistance to lodging considering the average of years in which the genotype was present. The lowest lodging index was shown by cultivar Trigo BR 23, while the most susceptible cultivars were: Butuí, CEP 14-Tapes, CNT 1, CNT 8, Cotiporã, Jacuí, Mascarenhas, Minuano 82, RS 1-Fênix, Trigo BR 3, Trigo BR 4, Trigo BR 6, Trigo BR 32, and Vacaria.
