Abstract

From 1984 to 1988, at the Cooperativa Agrária Mista Entre Rios Ltda., in Guarapuava, PR, Brazil, the effects of some crop rotation systems on yield, and the intensity of root rot diseases of barley were assessed. Four rotation systems for barley were studied: 1) monoculture; 2) rotation of one winter without barley; 3) rotation of two winters barley; 4) and rotation of three winters without barley. Both winter and summer crops were direct seeded into the soil. A complete randomized block design with four replications and plots with 60 m2 was used. Due to unfavorable environmental conditions, root diseases occurred in low intensity and in noncritical stages of plant development, causing non-significant damages to barley. Grain yield of barley in rotation systems was influenced by the year.
