Abstract

The objective of this work was to evaluate pumpkin and winter squash genotypes for yield and quality of ripe fruits. Seven genotypes of Cucurbita moschata and five of C. maxima were evaluated in two experiments installed in a randomized block design with five replications, in Brasília, DF, Brazil. The fruits were harvested when ripe and evaluated for shape, appearance and yield. Data were submitted to analysis of variance and means were grouped using the Scott-Knott test at a 5% probability level. The results of the evaluations indicated that, as for the Cucurbita moschata, MAM 2516 presented high number and yield of fruits, with high average mass. MAM 2553 presented yield, number, average weight, length and width of fruits equivalent to those of the Maranhão group depending on the year of cultivation, but with better appearance. MAM 2530 was similar to Jacarezinho pumpkin, and showed higher average fruit mass, greater fruit width and greater pulp thickness depending on the year of cultivation, and longer fruits, but with an inferior appearance. As for the C. maxima, the Coroa and the Exposição stood out for the yield of fruits with a large average mass, length, width and pulp thickness. MAM 2531 showed intermediate yield, average fruit mass and pulp thickness.
