Abstract

The region of Sete Lagoas, MG, Brazil, has its wet season from October to March coinciding with the growing season of the tradicional crops. In the crop management for this region the so called "veranicos" (short dry periods during the wet season) must be taken into consideration. These "veranicos" normally occur during the months of January or February. To detect these periods the pluviometric frequency analysis and quantitative rainfall distribution were determined for the last 59 years (1928-1986) with intervals of 30, 15, 10, and 5 days. Fifty per cent of the observed intervals show at least seven day "veranicos" during the month of January.
