Abstract

The objective of this work was to present the main factors that influence the radial variation of eucalyptus wood, and evaluate how much this characteristic can influence the properties of this material.The variability found within an individual tree is brought about by changes undergone by the exchange during aging, and  modifications imposed by environmental conditions. The heterogeneity of the material causes a number or damages, hampering the wood transformation and processing industry. The physical discontinuity of wood occurs because of several factors, such as the intrinsic characteristics of the species itself, the silvicultural treatments,and, mainly because of the species constitution and anatomical organization.
